Bear Cubs - Achievement Update 06-25-09

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Wolf Cubs enjoying the Cornhole game the Bear Cubs created

Parents,

Last night we worked to create a cardboard cornhole game set. We used some T-shirt cloth to glue some beanbags and then went outside to cut the cardboard boxes into shape. Cubmaster Randy helped with the duct tape on one of the boxes and the Wolf and Tiger Scouts even stopped by to play with us.

The upcoming holiday is a perfect time to look at completing some achievements for section 3 (What Makes America Special).

I was thinking about making July bike month for the Den with our bicycle safety field trip and bike course achievement in our sights. That way we will be more than prepared for the August bike ride with the pack. I will confirm these plans after the holiday.

FYI - the Parent/Leader meeting is cancelled for next week due to the holiday. There should be an email coming soon on this.

NEW Bear Cubs - Achievement Update 06-11-09

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Wolf Parents,

At the Lake Crabtree pack meeting, we completed Bear Cub achievement 5d (visit a nature center).
For last night’s meeting we worked on Bear Cub achievement 7a using plaster of Paris and a finger printing sheet from Creative Chemistry
http://www.creative-chemistry.org.uk/activities/fingerprinting.htm

Using the secret code provided, the scouts have to encrypt a short joke for me to decode at our next meeting.

I have attached the achievement and elective sheets I use to track each scout.

The biggest part of the year will be the Bear Den scrapbook for the year. Every den meeting, each scout will provide a sheet identifying what they did for the time between pack activities (pictures, stories, drawings, etc.). My hope is that at the end of the year, I will have a 3 inch binder full of memories.

Thanks,
Juan

All Webelo I, Bears, Wolves, and Tigers will be bridging up to their next dens. We encourage you to bring family and friends to the event! The boys have worked hard and it’s time to celebrate their accomplishments.

Please have your scout think about his last year. We will have an activity as they arrive asking what they liked best.

All parents should be sending their den leaders a list of awards your scout has earned ASAP. We want to make sure we have all the awards to present to them on Sunday.

See you Sunday!

2009 Planning Meeting this Thursday June 4th

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

To All Scout Parents

The 2009 Cub Pack 393 Planning Meeting will be on Thursday, June 4 from 7-9 at the Triangle Church building.

Please plan on being there early as we’ll make formal plans for the full year and schedule in dates and make our campout plans so that we can let everyone know the planned dates.

In preparation, I ask that everyone think about the following questions and come with comments, suggestions and input:

  1. What do you like about our Pack? Along those same lines, what is your favorite Pack event and why?
  2. What is working in our Pack?
  3. What do you think we need to do differently or better?
  4. What would you change about our Pack?
  5. What can I do to improve the Pack this year and how can I get someone else involved with that activity to help them be more involved with the Pack?

Thanks, I’m sure there are other questions that will spin off of these. I want to spend some time talking about this area first (15-20 minutes or so) and then do some planning hopefully implementing some of the things we discuss here.

Look forward to a great meeting with you all Thursday, June 4.

Randy
