Important - Upcoming Training

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Leaders,
Here are the next training dates (see below). If you are a uniformed leader, a committee member or another registered adult (or you would like to be), please mark your calendar and plan to attend one of the following training event.

Part of our annual application for Quality Unit status inquires about what percentage of our registered adults are trained for their positions with the pack. Let’s just say we need to put more focus on getting everyone properly qualified, especially folks who sit on Pack Committee and folks who wear the BSA uniform. Training may not be your first choice activity for a Saturday this fall, but it assures a safe, quality program for our scouts and the BSA expects it, so why not make this year the year to get it done?

All adults need Youth Protection (online). New rules from BSA National states that this must be renewed every two years.

BALOO training is August 21. There must be at least one adult BALOO trained per pack for the pack to go camping. And that trained adult must be on the camping trip. At this point, we only have two BALOO trained adults. If you can attend this training, please do so. This is the only opportunity this year.

Sept 28th is MEGA training. This will provide any training for any position (except BALOO) available in the pack - including any volunteer or committee position. Please please sign up.

Oct 23 and Nov 11 & 18 will also provide extensive training.

Our pack will reimburse you for the cost of the training. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Thank you.
Bobbi

September Campout and White House Visit - registration due next Tuesday night at the meeting at REI

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

All,

Hope everyone is doing well. Great News – Bobbi Stanley has worked out for us to visit the White House during our September 24-26 campout in Washington, DC. Now, before you get too excited, there is limited space and we need to urgently get folks signed up if you plan to go. The trip will be $50 per family to register and you need to decide if you are going or not and pay your money next Tuesday night. Next Tuesday’s meeting will be at the REI in Durham near South Point Mall. Bobbi will be there to take your registration information and money committing you to the campout and visit. She will need the number of folks going on the campout as well as Social Security and passport information for everyone over age 13 at registration next Tuesday as they have to do some background checks for those visiting the White House. There can be no backouts due to the limited space so please commit your schedule if you plan to go. You will not be able to register after next Tuesday as Bobbi needs to send in all of the information. The campout will go from early Friday (you will need to take your kids out of school), we will camp in the DC area on Friday and Saturday night with the White House visit sometime on Saturday. We’ll then pack up and schedule some activity in the DC area before heading back home Sunday afternoon.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are grateful to Bobbi for coordinating it for us, but please make sure you can go and let her know when you come out to REI at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday night.

If folks do have an issue financially with making the $50 commitment and you would like to go, please contact me directly and I’ll be happy to discuss options with you. Don’t let the money keep you from joining in this event if you can and want to go. We just need to know that there is a firm commitment in those cases.

As a reminder with this email – the meeting will be at REI in Durham next Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. rather than a regular meeting at the building. And Bobbi will be there to register you for the DC and White House visit.

Yours in Scouting,

Randy

Leader’s meeting Tuesday Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the building

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

All,

Just wanted to remind everyone that we’ll have a leaders meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. We’re gearing up for the school year and we’ll get back to regular meetings starting on Aug. 10.

The agenda for this meeting.
1) Popcorn planning update – I believe we’ll need some volunteers, but will check with Leopolda and Melissa (who has indicated willingness to be our popcorn kernel this year)
2) New program planning guides – I’ve distributed a few to den leaders. Cub Scouts has developed an easy to use curriculum that has your year planned out. We’ve purchased enough for each den to have one. Should make it easier to plan meetings and activities.
3) Aug. 28 bike ride. Just need to organize the details and go over what requirements we’ll cover for the various dens.
4) September DC campout – need to begin the planning and organization for this. It will be a lot of fun, but needs to be coordinated well.

If you have any additional items we need to discuss, feel free to email those to the group and we’ll get them on the agenda.

We’ll try to keep this meeting to 1 hour.

Randy
