Update to the Yorktown Trip

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

All,

One more thing on the Yorktown Trip, we will need to meet and leave from the Church building in Morrisville no later than 11 a.m. on the morning of the 9th in order to make sure that we get to our boarding point by 5 p.m.
(MapQuest says the trip will take about 4 hours and 45 minutes without stopping, so I’m figuring it will take us at least 5 to 5:30 minutes with a stop or two for a meal and rest-stops).
Thus, you will need to be making plans for your kids to get off from school. Should be an excused absence given the historical nature of the trip (Yorktown and Ft. Sumter).

Thanks,

Randy

Troop Committee Meeting, December Rechartering and Yorktown Trip Dec. 9-11

Monday, November 28th, 2011

All,

There is a Troop and Pack Committee meeting this coming Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing several things, including the Yorktown trip and Troop and Pack Rechartering in December. Given that we only have one Pack meeting in December, it will be important for everyone who can to come to this meeting.

So every parent of a kid who has signed up for this event needs to attend to coordinate plans for the trip down and when and where to meet that Friday night so that we can get onto the ship as a group. I’m working on scheduling a Charleston Ghost tour on Saturday evening, but this is going to be an extra cost, so you can let me know at the meeting if you will be able and want to attend. I hope to have more details on the cost that night.

Here is a link to the Patriot’s Pointe website with recommended “What to Bring?” on the trip:
http://www.patriotspoint.org/pdf/pod/4301491111043420.pdf

In addition, we need to discuss plans for additional roles on the Troop and Pack Committee and as we recharter, I need to know who in the Pack would like to/be interested in stepping in as Cubmaster. There will be some training required to fulfill this role and we need someone willing to commit to this in order to recharter the Pack (i.e. before the end of December). I’m not sure when the training will be given again, so hopefully the District will let us recharter with a Cubmaster who has not been fully trained yet. We’ll see.

Thanks everyone and let me know if there are any additional agenda items that we need to discuss.

See everyone on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the church building.

Post Trail’s End Popcorn Notice + Thanksgiving Holiday

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Everyone,

Sorry about the confusion in getting everyone their popcorn tonight. I was at the Fire Station with the Webelos II completing the Readyman pin. The spreadsheet didn’t give the correct orders for some reason, so please be sure to confirm your orders with the actual order forms. If yours are incorrect (we tried to verify them with the official order form as much as possible), please get in touch with Kathy Pitney. If you didn’t pick your order up tonight, you can also contact Kathy schedule a pick-up this weekend at her house in Morrisville.

Thanks everyone. We do not have another official meeting in November due to the Thanksgiving holiday, so I want to wish everyone a safe and fun Thanksgiving. We will have a Parent meeting for all of the folks going on the Yorktown trip the first Tuesday in December (which is the Tuesday before our trip – It will be here before we know it).

Talk to you soon.

Randy

Popcorn sale turn in at next meeting, Oct. 25 and planning for Pack Meeting Nov. 1

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Everyone,

Hope you are well and are excited about the upcoming trip to the Yorktown.

Just a couple of reminders:

The next meeting is when we will be turning in our popcorn.
I would like to do this by den starting with the Tigers. As mentioned before, if you have collected cash in making your sales, we need each parent to deposit the cash and write a check for the cash that your scout has before the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25. This is important for the folks who will be collecting it to only have checks and not have cash involved. Thanks for your help with this. Kathy Pitney and I will be coordinating with each den throughout the meeting to get the money turned in. We’ll start with the Tigers and work our way up to the Webelos II. I know that the Webelos I have been meeting on a different night at Neil’s house, but for this turn in we will need any of the Webelos I who sold popcorn to come to the meeting on Tuesday to turn it in.

Also, it has been several months since we have had a Pack meeting to award the patches and belt loops and rank advancements for the boys and I would like to do one on the first Tuesday in November (Nov. 1, the week after we turn in Popcorn). We have several new scouts who have joined and this is a great opportunity for them to get awarded their Bobcat badge, which they need to earn first anyway, and get them started on their path to their den-specific badge. So, at the next meeting on Oct. 25, please make sure that you bring your handbooks and get your achievements signed off by your den leader and let them know what awards are needed for your son. Leaders, if you can tally that and make sure that we get ready for the Pack meeting on Nov. 1. We will plan to hold it in the fellowship hall at the church building from 7-8 p.m. that night.

Thanks for your help in making our Pack go.

Den Meeting Tonight! – New Scouts, Webelos, Yorktown, and Popcorn

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Hey everyone,

We do have a regular den meeting tomorrow. I had a call from a family that has a Tiger and a Bear that will be coming to visit. They just moved to the area from France and the boys (and parents) are still learning to speak English (the mom, Claire, speaks English pretty well, I talked to her on the phone). So, be on the lookout for them and please make them feel Welcome.

The Webelos II boys will not be meeting at the building tomorrow night as we will be going to the Fire Station to work on our Readyman pin, so we won’t see you there. That means that I need a den leader to volunteer to run the opening activity (Flag ceremony, etiquette or maybe a surprise uniform inspection – but nothing too harsh). Please email me to let me know you can organize this.

Also, we have to get the final registration for the Yorktown trip and we need the payments made (I’ve got to get mine to Bobbi following tomorrow night), so if a parent can let me know that they will be able to step over to the Boy Scout meeting to get the envelop with the registration form from my son and can make sure all of the den’s get a chance to get registered, that would be great. We are at 38 with the Flack family if all of them go and I haven’t gotten them on the form yet. We have slots for 50. Remember that it is $76 per scout and the same for each adult ($152 per pair) and make your checks out to Pack 393 so that we can get it deposited before I have to cut a check from our account to make the final payment. As discussed, if your son sells $260 in popcorn (several got close with the show and sells the weekend before last), then the Pack will reimburse you for the scout admission for this trip once the popcorn sale is complete.

And that brings me to the Popcorn update. I hope all of the boys are having a good time selling and that they have gotten to go out in their neighborhoods. We basically have 2 more weeks from tomorrow to complete our sale.

All orders and money have to be turned in at our meeting on October 25.

As we said at the sale kickoff, you have to have the money for each order or the parent will need to write a check to cover the cost of the order or the order won’t get made. Hopefully you have been collecting the money in advance as you went out to sell. We also ask that the parent write a check for any cash that your have received (in other words, deposit the cash and write a check for the cash amount to turn in with your order on the final night). We will need some parent volunteers to help with each den collection on the 25th and to make sure the orders are correct and the money is correct, but it would be better for us not to have to handle any cash and writing a check for the cash amount is the best way to ensure this. Thanks for your help with this and continued good luck with your sale.

Sincerely,

Randy Basinger
Cubmaster

YORKTOWN UPDATE

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

The following folks are registered for the 50 official slots (I have gotten un-official agreement from the folks at Patriot Point to allow for up to 15 additional for a total of 65, but that is going to be subject to their having availability to have us):

38 of the 50 official slots have been filled leaving 12- (27 if you include the additional 15) slots available.
We do need you to pay for your slots by the Oct. 11 meeting as the official number and final payment is due on Oct. 13.
There is limited ability to get refunded once you commit, so make sure that you block out the weekend and make your payments.
It should be a fun trip.
If you were not there and are not among those listed, please respond and let me know.
I believe that Bobbi is going to also send out a response to this email with her mailing address so that you can get her your payment so that we have the funds in the Pack treasury to make the final payment (which you can imagine from the cost is a big check that we don’t want to bounce).

Pack meeting next Tuesday May 24th

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Hello everyone,

This is just a reminder that we have adapted our next scheduled den meeting next Tuesday, May 24, to be a Pack meeting. Please plan on arriving a little early (6:30) if you need to meet with you den leader to get a few things signed off for you boys. Also let your den leader know if there are any awards that you son has earned. Marilyn Adams has graciously offered to organize the room prior to our meeting to make it look nice for the scaled down Blue and Gold. She is also going to be getting some items from Chick-fil-A so there will be food for the event. Don’t plan on it being a full meal for your family, but there will be some chicken nuggets, a few sandwich wraps and a fruit tray for families so that you can be there and not have to worry too much about feeding your family before you come as they will get something to eat. There will also be cake from the boys who enter the cake contest. Anyone who would like to join in on our annual cake contest just needs to arrive with a cub scout themed cake (not sure if this covers a requirement or not, but they are usually creative and quite yummy!)

Vivek, I have not seen any emails and hope that you have been getting this. The Pack awards trove is getting a little light on items and so the leaders need to make sure we get you details of what is needed and we get those awards restocked in the awards bins. At the very least, we need to get some of each of the rank badges (Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos). I know that someone is going to need to make a trip to the Scout Shop to get these items. I may be making that trip this weekend or Monday for some other awards, so let me know. We just need to get this coordinated via email before the meeting Tuesday so that we have the items to give out to the kids.

Thanks,

Randy

Popcorn Season Coming Up

Friday, May 13th, 2011

I am sure that the council Popcorn Kernel will be contacting me to get our volunteers.
This is a very important role and I need to get a parent or two to volunteer.
This is the event that helps us fund our campouts and other activities throughout the year and it is important for us to do well on our sale this year in order to help us hopefully pay for some of the planned trip to the Yorktown.
Please contact me and let me know if you would be willing to help take on this vital role with our Pack.
