Post Trail’s End Popcorn Notice + Thanksgiving Holiday

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Everyone,

Sorry about the confusion in getting everyone their popcorn tonight. I was at the Fire Station with the Webelos II completing the Readyman pin. The spreadsheet didn’t give the correct orders for some reason, so please be sure to confirm your orders with the actual order forms. If yours are incorrect (we tried to verify them with the official order form as much as possible), please get in touch with Kathy Pitney. If you didn’t pick your order up tonight, you can also contact Kathy schedule a pick-up this weekend at her house in Morrisville.

Thanks everyone. We do not have another official meeting in November due to the Thanksgiving holiday, so I want to wish everyone a safe and fun Thanksgiving. We will have a Parent meeting for all of the folks going on the Yorktown trip the first Tuesday in December (which is the Tuesday before our trip - It will be here before we know it).

Talk to you soon.

Randy

Trail’s End Popcorn has arrived - Pickup Tonight

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Everyone,

Just a reminder that I have everyone’s order (with the exception of those with Sweet and Savory packages - we had 5 of those) and your popcorn will be at the meeting to pick up. Please plan to come and get your order for delivery tonight.

If you can’t make it, the Pitney’s have agreed to be available Saturday for pick-up (I won’t be at my house due to a competition that I’m involved with), but it would be best to get it from the meeting tonight.

See you all tonight.

Popcorn sale turn in at next meeting, Oct. 25 and planning for Pack Meeting Nov. 1

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Everyone,

Hope you are well and are excited about the upcoming trip to the Yorktown.

Just a couple of reminders:

The next meeting is when we will be turning in our popcorn.
I would like to do this by den starting with the Tigers. As mentioned before, if you have collected cash in making your sales, we need each parent to deposit the cash and write a check for the cash that your scout has before the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25. This is important for the folks who will be collecting it to only have checks and not have cash involved. Thanks for your help with this. Kathy Pitney and I will be coordinating with each den throughout the meeting to get the money turned in. We’ll start with the Tigers and work our way up to the Webelos II. I know that the Webelos I have been meeting on a different night at Neil’s house, but for this turn in we will need any of the Webelos I who sold popcorn to come to the meeting on Tuesday to turn it in.

Also, it has been several months since we have had a Pack meeting to award the patches and belt loops and rank advancements for the boys and I would like to do one on the first Tuesday in November (Nov. 1, the week after we turn in Popcorn). We have several new scouts who have joined and this is a great opportunity for them to get awarded their Bobcat badge, which they need to earn first anyway, and get them started on their path to their den-specific badge. So, at the next meeting on Oct. 25, please make sure that you bring your handbooks and get your achievements signed off by your den leader and let them know what awards are needed for your son. Leaders, if you can tally that and make sure that we get ready for the Pack meeting on Nov. 1. We will plan to hold it in the fellowship hall at the church building from 7-8 p.m. that night.

Thanks for your help in making our Pack go.

Den Meeting Tonight! - New Scouts, Webelos, Yorktown, and Popcorn

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Hey everyone,

We do have a regular den meeting tomorrow. I had a call from a family that has a Tiger and a Bear that will be coming to visit. They just moved to the area from France and the boys (and parents) are still learning to speak English (the mom, Claire, speaks English pretty well, I talked to her on the phone). So, be on the lookout for them and please make them feel Welcome.

The Webelos II boys will not be meeting at the building tomorrow night as we will be going to the Fire Station to work on our Readyman pin, so we won’t see you there. That means that I need a den leader to volunteer to run the opening activity (Flag ceremony, etiquette or maybe a surprise uniform inspection - but nothing too harsh). Please email me to let me know you can organize this.

Also, we have to get the final registration for the Yorktown trip and we need the payments made (I’ve got to get mine to Bobbi following tomorrow night), so if a parent can let me know that they will be able to step over to the Boy Scout meeting to get the envelop with the registration form from my son and can make sure all of the den’s get a chance to get registered, that would be great. We are at 38 with the Flack family if all of them go and I haven’t gotten them on the form yet. We have slots for 50. Remember that it is $76 per scout and the same for each adult ($152 per pair) and make your checks out to Pack 393 so that we can get it deposited before I have to cut a check from our account to make the final payment. As discussed, if your son sells $260 in popcorn (several got close with the show and sells the weekend before last), then the Pack will reimburse you for the scout admission for this trip once the popcorn sale is complete.

And that brings me to the Popcorn update. I hope all of the boys are having a good time selling and that they have gotten to go out in their neighborhoods. We basically have 2 more weeks from tomorrow to complete our sale.

All orders and money have to be turned in at our meeting on October 25.

As we said at the sale kickoff, you have to have the money for each order or the parent will need to write a check to cover the cost of the order or the order won’t get made. Hopefully you have been collecting the money in advance as you went out to sell. We also ask that the parent write a check for any cash that your have received (in other words, deposit the cash and write a check for the cash amount to turn in with your order on the final night). We will need some parent volunteers to help with each den collection on the 25th and to make sure the orders are correct and the money is correct, but it would be better for us not to have to handle any cash and writing a check for the cash amount is the best way to ensure this. Thanks for your help with this and continued good luck with your sale.

Sincerely,

Randy Basinger

Additional Show and Sell Opportunities

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Hello everyone,

The Crosswinds popcorn Kernel contacted me today to let me know that they have locations for us to do a show-and-sell for a half day this Saturday and a full day on Sunday. I informed them that I could not run this one due to other events already planned for this weekend and that we were only planning to do one weekend of show and sells for our sale this year. However, I told them that I’d check to see if there was anyone who wanted to plan and manage a sale for the boys this weekend. I do still have popcorn remaining if we wanted to do it, but someone else would have to volunteer to run these events and organize them and pick up the popcorn from my house. Any takers or do I pass on this and let them find another Pack to staff it. Let me know tonight as I need to let Ryland know tomorrow morning so they can identify someone to take these locations.

Thanks,

Randy

Trail’s End Popcorn Update

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Thanks for bearing with us tonight as we got somewhat organized for this year’s popcorn sale. As mentioned, we have agreed to two Show N Sales on Saturday at the Staples next to Trader Joe’s at the intersection of Cary Parkway and Kildaire Farms road (a really great location - a lot of foot traffic on Saturday) and Sunday at Harris Teeter at 1111 Walnut Street (Cary Towne Center Mall).

Here is what we have for times that folks have signed up:

Saturday:

1-2 - Basingers
2-3 - Basingers
3-4 - Agrawals
4-5 - Agrawals

I will be able to be out there to set-up and will be able to come back to tear down (table and banners and popcorn)

Sunday:

Noon-1 - Clarks
1-2 - Wu
2-3 - Agrawals
3-4 - Agrawals
4-5 - Agrawals

It would be good to have two boys out there selling each hour, so those who needed to check schedules can just respond to all on this list (new folks emails have been included) and I will update and send it out.

Trail’s End Popcorn 2011 (OLD)!

Monday, September 26th, 2011

All,

I’m working with the district Popcorn Kernel to help us so the boys can start selling on Tuesday. In addition, they have reserved

Harris Teeter
1111 Walnut Street

for us to do a Show and Sell next Saturday and Sundayfor the full day, but I need to know by Tuesday that we can support covering that location for the whole day.
For those who are new to the sale, this is where we will actually sell popcorn to people entering the store and the HTs tend to be good sales locations. So come Tuesday prepared to sign up for an hour or two to help us sell popcorn next Saturday and Sundaythroughout the day. I also need a parent who can help with coordinating this for us (I’ll provide details on Tuesday) as my wife is away with our oldest and I will have the other three in tow with me next weekend and probably can’t stay out for the whole day.

Families, please respond to this email if you are not able to attend the meeting this Tuesday night and let me know of a time that you can help with coverage for our Pack’s scheduled popcorn sale on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2. I need to let the district kernel know if we have enough to cover it next SUNDAY or if we need to give this up to another Pack or join in with another Pack. Again, this is extremely generous of them to help us with this, so I would like to support the sale and earn some money for our Pack next weekend.

Also, this Tuesday I need to get folks signed up for the USS Yorktown trip. The cost is $76 per person (in other words, for a scout an parent it will be $152 for the weekend, plus meals on Friday and Sunday during the travel there and back). We have up 50 slots definitely reserved and I think we can go up to 65. I know some of our Boy Scouts will be going with us on this trip, so be sure that you register on Tuesday night and plan to pay the pack for the amount. I need to get back with Patriot’s Point folks with a firm number and write a final check by Oct. 13. Given the fact that our popcorn sale will not be complete before this, we are not going to be able to have the popcorn help us with this unless the Pack committee decides to provide reimbursements. I have a form to sign up and send in with our payment, so I will get there early to get a table set up to get family’s registered. Please come with your checkbook to sign up as we will not be able to sign you up without the payment to coincide with it. If you have an issue with making the payment, please let me know and we can see if there is a way to help with the payment. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a fun and memorable trip for our Pack.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. I would like to plan on having the boys work on the Flag Ceremony again at the start of the meeting and I want to work with the boys on how they fold a flag once it is taken down from a flagpole.

Den leaders, I know that there is a Boy Scout Court of Honor at the building in Chapel Hill that will involve some of your older sons (I’m in the same boat, but will plan on being at our meeting), please let us know if you can attend and lead your groups or we need to plan to fold them in to another group.

Thanks,

Randy

Popcorn Season Coming Up

Friday, May 13th, 2011

I am sure that the council Popcorn Kernel will be contacting me to get our volunteers.
This is a very important role and I need to get a parent or two to volunteer.
This is the event that helps us fund our campouts and other activities throughout the year and it is important for us to do well on our sale this year in order to help us hopefully pay for some of the planned trip to the Yorktown.
Please contact me and let me know if you would be willing to help take on this vital role with our Pack.
