Popcorn sale turn in at next meeting, Oct. 25 and planning for Pack Meeting Nov. 1

Written by Randall Basinger on October 17th, 2011

Everyone,

Hope you are well and are excited about the upcoming trip to the Yorktown.

Just a couple of reminders:

The next meeting is when we will be turning in our popcorn.
I would like to do this by den starting with the Tigers. As mentioned before, if you have collected cash in making your sales, we need each parent to deposit the cash and write a check for the cash that your scout has before the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25. This is important for the folks who will be collecting it to only have checks and not have cash involved. Thanks for your help with this. Kathy Pitney and I will be coordinating with each den throughout the meeting to get the money turned in. We’ll start with the Tigers and work our way up to the Webelos II. I know that the Webelos I have been meeting on a different night at Neil’s house, but for this turn in we will need any of the Webelos I who sold popcorn to come to the meeting on Tuesday to turn it in.

Also, it has been several months since we have had a Pack meeting to award the patches and belt loops and rank advancements for the boys and I would like to do one on the first Tuesday in November (Nov. 1, the week after we turn in Popcorn). We have several new scouts who have joined and this is a great opportunity for them to get awarded their Bobcat badge, which they need to earn first anyway, and get them started on their path to their den-specific badge. So, at the next meeting on Oct. 25, please make sure that you bring your handbooks and get your achievements signed off by your den leader and let them know what awards are needed for your son. Leaders, if you can tally that and make sure that we get ready for the Pack meeting on Nov. 1. We will plan to hold it in the fellowship hall at the church building from 7-8 p.m. that night.

Thanks for your help in making our Pack go.

Den Meeting Tonight! – New Scouts, Webelos, Yorktown, and Popcorn

Written by Randall Basinger on October 11th, 2011

Hey everyone,

We do have a regular den meeting tomorrow. I had a call from a family that has a Tiger and a Bear that will be coming to visit. They just moved to the area from France and the boys (and parents) are still learning to speak English (the mom, Claire, speaks English pretty well, I talked to her on the phone). So, be on the lookout for them and please make them feel Welcome.

The Webelos II boys will not be meeting at the building tomorrow night as we will be going to the Fire Station to work on our Readyman pin, so we won’t see you there. That means that I need a den leader to volunteer to run the opening activity (Flag ceremony, etiquette or maybe a surprise uniform inspection – but nothing too harsh). Please email me to let me know you can organize this.

Also, we have to get the final registration for the Yorktown trip and we need the payments made (I’ve got to get mine to Bobbi following tomorrow night), so if a parent can let me know that they will be able to step over to the Boy Scout meeting to get the envelop with the registration form from my son and can make sure all of the den’s get a chance to get registered, that would be great. We are at 38 with the Flack family if all of them go and I haven’t gotten them on the form yet. We have slots for 50. Remember that it is $76 per scout and the same for each adult ($152 per pair) and make your checks out to Pack 393 so that we can get it deposited before I have to cut a check from our account to make the final payment. As discussed, if your son sells $260 in popcorn (several got close with the show and sells the weekend before last), then the Pack will reimburse you for the scout admission for this trip once the popcorn sale is complete.

And that brings me to the Popcorn update. I hope all of the boys are having a good time selling and that they have gotten to go out in their neighborhoods. We basically have 2 more weeks from tomorrow to complete our sale.

All orders and money have to be turned in at our meeting on October 25.

As we said at the sale kickoff, you have to have the money for each order or the parent will need to write a check to cover the cost of the order or the order won’t get made. Hopefully you have been collecting the money in advance as you went out to sell. We also ask that the parent write a check for any cash that your have received (in other words, deposit the cash and write a check for the cash amount to turn in with your order on the final night). We will need some parent volunteers to help with each den collection on the 25th and to make sure the orders are correct and the money is correct, but it would be better for us not to have to handle any cash and writing a check for the cash amount is the best way to ensure this. Thanks for your help with this and continued good luck with your sale.

Sincerely,

Randy Basinger

Additional Show and Sell Opportunities

Written by Randall Basinger on October 6th, 2011

Hello everyone,

The Crosswinds popcorn Kernel contacted me today to let me know that they have locations for us to do a show-and-sell for a half day this Saturday and a full day on Sunday. I informed them that I could not run this one due to other events already planned for this weekend and that we were only planning to do one weekend of show and sells for our sale this year. However, I told them that I’d check to see if there was anyone who wanted to plan and manage a sale for the boys this weekend. I do still have popcorn remaining if we wanted to do it, but someone else would have to volunteer to run these events and organize them and pick up the popcorn from my house. Any takers or do I pass on this and let them find another Pack to staff it. Let me know tonight as I need to let Ryland know tomorrow morning so they can identify someone to take these locations.

Thanks,

Randy

YORKTOWN UPDATE

Written by Randall Basinger on October 3rd, 2011

The following folks are registered for the 50 official slots (I have gotten un-official agreement from the folks at Patriot Point to allow for up to 15 additional for a total of 65, but that is going to be subject to their having availability to have us):

38 of the 50 official slots have been filled leaving 12- (27 if you include the additional 15) slots available.
We do need you to pay for your slots by the Oct. 11 meeting as the official number and final payment is due on Oct. 13.
There is limited ability to get refunded once you commit, so make sure that you block out the weekend and make your payments.
It should be a fun trip.
If you were not there and are not among those listed, please respond and let me know.
I believe that Bobbi is going to also send out a response to this email with her mailing address so that you can get her your payment so that we have the funds in the Pack treasury to make the final payment (which you can imagine from the cost is a big check that we don’t want to bounce).

Trail’s End Popcorn Update

Written by Bobbi Stanley on September 28th, 2011

Thanks for bearing with us tonight as we got somewhat organized for this year’s popcorn sale. As mentioned, we have agreed to two Show N Sales on Saturday at the Staples next to Trader Joe’s at the intersection of Cary Parkway and Kildaire Farms road (a really great location – a lot of foot traffic on Saturday) and Sunday at Harris Teeter at 1111 Walnut Street (Cary Towne Center Mall).

Here is what we have for times that folks have signed up:

Saturday:

1-2 – Basingers
2-3 – Basingers
3-4 – Agrawals
4-5 – Agrawals

I will be able to be out there to set-up and will be able to come back to tear down (table and banners and popcorn)

Sunday:

Noon-1 – Clarks
1-2 – Wu
2-3 – Agrawals
3-4 – Agrawals
4-5 – Agrawals

It would be good to have two boys out there selling each hour, so those who needed to check schedules can just respond to all on this list (new folks emails have been included) and I will update and send it out.
