Tell us what you’re willing to do to be thrifty, and you could be taking a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., the home of Benjamin Franklin, the “American Apostle of Thrift.” It’s easy to enter — just click on the “Enter the Contest” tab at the top of the page.

Plus, we’ll send a free Thrift Patch to the first 5,000 people who enter.

2009 Boys Life Magazine reading contest

Requirements: A one-page (500 words max) report titled

“The Best Book I Read This Year”

Get your library card


Three age categories:

  • 8 years old and younger
  • 9 and 10 years old
  • 11 years old and older


Prizes: First-place - $100 gift certificate (Boy Scouts official retail catalog)
Second-place - $75 gift certificate
Third-place - $50 certificate

Everyone who enters will get a free patch (temporary insignia can be worn on the uniform shirt right pocket)

Be sure to include your name, address, age and grade in school on the entry.

Send your report, along with a business-size, self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
