BALOO Course Saturday Schedule

The course will be held at Cary Presbyterian Church at 614 Griffis St. in Cary, NC. Registration begins at 8:30am and the course begins at 9am.

Please wear your uniform if you have one and bring a jacket or raincoat in case it rains. The forecast looks promising now, but it could change and part of the course is done outside. I’ve placed the schedule below so you can get an idea for what we are doing that day. I have materials for you so please get your registration in to the Council Office as soon as possible if you haven’t already.

  • 8:30am to 9am: Pregathering Activity: Hart
  • 9am to 9:15am: Opening Assembly: Will
  • 9:15am to 9:40am: Aims and Purposes: Hart
  • 9:40am to 10:25am: Planning: John
  • 10:40am to 11:10am: Lunch Prep (Foil meals): Bryson
  • 11:10am to 11:55am: Equipment: Tony
  • 11:55am to 12:20pm: Lunch
  • 12:20pm to 12:35pm: Campfire Planning: Lisa
  • 12:35pm to 1:20pm: Campfire: Lisa
  • 1:30pm to 2:15pm: Health and Safety: John
  • 2:15pm to 3:00pm: Program: Kim and Suzie
  • 3:20pm to 3:30pm: Round Robin Intro: Will
  • 3:30pm to 4:45pm: Round Robins: 4 sessions: Stoves, Lanterns, and Fire Safety: Tony
    Nature Hikes and Games: Lisa
    First Aid and Sanitation: Lu
    Cub Scout Cooking: Bryson
  • 4:45pm to 5:00pm: Closing (Will)

BALOO Course Reminder: This Saturday!

Hi all,

I wanted to send out a reminder that the District is doing a BALOO Course this Saturday, November 21st, from 9am to 5pm.

Location: Cary Presbyterian Church - 614 Griffis St.

In order to take a Cub Scout Pack camping, you are required to have a leader present that has taken this course. Below is a link to the flyer for the course. If you have any leaders that haven’t registered and are planning on taking this, please let me know by Wednesday so we can include them in the participant count that we use to determine our food and material preparations. After notifying me that they plan to attend, please mail the registration to the Council with the $25 course fee. If you have any questions on this, please let me know.

University of Scouting 2009 Registration

Crosswinds Scouters,

Thank you if you have already signed up for Univ of Scouting this year. Nov 7 at Wake Tech will be an excellent day if you are going to attend.

For those of you that are still undecided if you want to attend this year: We have over 370 registered already to attend from our Council. We have over 121 courses. And many classes are already filled.

You still have time to register to get in the courses that you want. But DON’T wait any longer! If you wait even a few days, the classes you want to take may already be full.

Be sure to put a second choice down for every time period. As courses are very full and once it reaches the classroom limit, I cant put any more people in the room!

Although, I wish I could push more people into rooms (like the Japanese Subways!) But the NC Fire Codes wont allow it.

So, Register Today, there are plenty of courses that will help you be a better scout leader (and Parent!)

Classes that are still available include how to handle challenging youth behavior, Developing Troop Leadership, Merit Badge Counseling, Trail to Eagle (period 5-6), Cub Scout Ceremonies, Effective Pinewood Derbies, Knots for Cubs (period 4), Pack Programming and Advancements, Summertime Program, Webelos to Scout Transition, Making the most of your unit commissioner, the ABC’s of leave no trace and Cycling/Mountain Biking and many many more.

There is plenty to choose from, you just have to go online and register and pick the classes you want.
