Blue and Gold - Recap

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

All,

I had a great time at the Blue and Gold and enjoyed seeing the Webelos II bridge over into Boy Scouting. I want to send a special thanks again to Marilyn and Brian Adams, who are new to the Pack and I thought did a great job (with help from some vets) of decorating and making the day special for the boys. My sons (and daughters) had a great time.

Just a couple of reminders:

We do have den meetings this Tuesday night at 6:45 at the building. We then have the Pinewood Derby coming up on Saturday and I’m sure Brian will be getting more details out about that in the next couple of days.

Following that, we will have our representatives to the District Pinewood Derby racing at the District event on March 6th (the following weekend, hard to believe it is already March). Also that first week of March, we have a Pack meeting on Tuesday, March 2 so be sure to get your Den leaders any achievements and belt loops that your son has earned this coming Tuesday so that he/she can let Vivek know for the awards at the Pack meeting.

Finally, there will be a committee meeting on Thursday, March 4 and all leaders and any parents are invited to be there. This will be an important one as we plan out the rest of the spring and make plans for the other den bridging. So leaders, please come prepared to provide an update on where the boys are and if there is anything that we need to do to get the boys ready to move on to their new dens by the end of May.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Pinewood Derby next Saturday. Also note that we will be re-chartering the Pack at the Pinewood Derby, so please plan to sign your boy up for another great year of scouting.

Have a great start to the week and I’ll see many of you on Tuesday night.

Happy New Year - Meetings Change to Tuesday nights - same time 6:45

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

All,

Hope everyone enjoyed a great holiday and has had a good start to the New Year.

Just a reminder that our meetings now shift to the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the East Triangle Building starting at 6:45 p.m.

The first Tuesday meeting will be next Tuesday, Jan. 12.

I am going to be away on business that night, but will work out to make sure the building is open (it should be since the Scout Troop meets on this night as well, but I’ll follow-up with Rudy to make sure).

Have a great meeting and as a reminder – we have our leaders meeting this Thursday at 7 p.m. and any parent is welcome to join us. We’ll be discussing the upcoming Pinewood Derby (end of January) and the Blue and Gold Banquet (late February).

Yours in Scouting,

Randy

January leaders meeting

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Hey all,

I hope that everyone is ready for the holidays. I know that I am.

With that in mind, I wanted to get on everyone’s calendar to have a Cub Scout Planning meeting on either Thursday, January 7 at our typical meeting time (7 p.m. – remember we’ll be moving to Tuesdays in the New Year) or on Jan. 9, Saturday morning around 10 a.m. I’d like to try to do it on Thursday, if possible, and as I know many of us have busy weekends already, but let me know what works for folks and we’ll go with the one that the most people can make.

In the new year, much like we’re moving to Tuesdays, I’d like for us to keep the first Tuesday open for Cub Scout Planning each month, but it is particularly important that as many of us that can make the first meeting so that we can make plans through to the summer (camping, Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold and spring camping/outings).

2010 is going to be a fun year, but I also want to thank everyone for their efforts so far this Scouting year and I wish you all a safe and restful holiday with your families.

Talk to you soon.

Big News About the December 10 BSA 100th Anniversary Audiocast Rally!

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

By now, we hope you have heard about BSA’s December 10 100th Anniversary audiocast kick-off rally! These are exciting times! And, this will be our chance to get everyone pumped up and energized for the celebration. If you have already responded, thank you!

If you haven’t had a chance to register … want another reason to tune-in on Dec. 10th? During the audiocast the BSA will give away:
• Two tickets to Gala Twenty-Ten, a very special and elegant 100th Anniversary event in Washington, D.C. on February 9, 2010. One night’s hotel stay is included.
• A signed, limited and special edition print of Joseph Csatari’s 100th Anniversary painting.
• A specially packaged, limited edition U.S. Mint commemorative coin honoring BSA’s 100 years.

All once-in-a-lifetime prizes. But, to be eligible you must be signed-up and switched-on during the audiocast rally! You don’t have to go any further than your own computer. All you have to do is register and then listen-in at: http://audiocast.scouting.org.

We don’t want anyone to miss out, and we hope this will be the largest virtual gathering in BSA history. Help us spread the word! Pass this along to friends, family, and other Scouting enthusiasts who should be part of our historic 100th Anniversary celebration. If you have a previously scheduled Scout meeting at the audio-cast time on December 10th - consider making the rally part of the meeting agenda. Join in as a group … but, make sure individuals register for the prizes!

“See” you on December 10th!

Pack Meeting Thursday

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Hey everyone,

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. I want to remind everyone that this Thursday we will have a Pack meeting. Vivek, if you could remember to bring the pins and loops and patches and parents, if you could let your Den leaders know what loops and such your son’s have earned. This meeting will be from 7-8 p.m. and we will have some details on our planned food drive that we will be working on during this time.

This activity will be followed by a flag ceremony, a game and any awards that the boys have won this fall. If you haven’t gotten through things just yet, don’t worry, there will be another opportunity for a Pack meeting in the not to distant future.

I look forward to seeing you and all the boys at the meeting on Thursday.

Yours in Scouting,

Randy

P.S. I haven’t heard the details on the Cary Christmas Parade yet, but expect to hear something soon. Once I get those details, I’ll get them out to you. What I do know is that it will be on Saturday, December 12 and we will be participating as both a Pack and Troop. Keep watching your email for more details.

University of Scouting 2009 Registration

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Crosswinds Scouters,

Thank you if you have already signed up for Univ of Scouting this year. Nov 7 at Wake Tech will be an excellent day if you are going to attend.

For those of you that are still undecided if you want to attend this year: We have over 370 registered already to attend from our Council. We have over 121 courses. And many classes are already filled.

You still have time to register to get in the courses that you want. But DON’T wait any longer! If you wait even a few days, the classes you want to take may already be full.

Be sure to put a second choice down for every time period. As courses are very full and once it reaches the classroom limit, I cant put any more people in the room!

Although, I wish I could push more people into rooms (like the Japanese Subways!) But the NC Fire Codes wont allow it.

So, Register Today, there are plenty of courses that will help you be a better scout leader (and Parent!)

Classes that are still available include how to handle challenging youth behavior, Developing Troop Leadership, Merit Badge Counseling, Trail to Eagle (period 5-6), Cub Scout Ceremonies, Effective Pinewood Derbies, Knots for Cubs (period 4), Pack Programming and Advancements, Summertime Program, Webelos to Scout Transition, Making the most of your unit commissioner, the ABC’s of leave no trace and Cycling/Mountain Biking and many many more.

There is plenty to choose from, you just have to go online and register and pick the classes you want.

Cub Scout Pack 393 Bike Safety Ride - Saturday August 8th

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

I hope you’ve had a great summer. As we wind down the heat and humidity, it is time to ramp back up with scouting. I’m sure many of you have enjoyed the summer camps and activities that have been going on in the Occoneechee Council.

We will be holding a Pack Bike Ride this Saturday morning. This is an opportunity to bring out a friend, have your bike inspected and tuned-up and enjoy a morning ride in and around Lake Crabtree. We will be meeting at 9 a.m. at North Cary Park.

From 9-9:30 a.m. we will be inspecting and tuning up our Pack member bikes. Then from 9:30-11:00 a.m. we will take a group ride into Lake Crabtree Park. Be sure to bring your water bottles to keep hydrated, but we should have a great time.

The schedule heading into the fall is as follows:

  • Regular Den Meetings on August 13th and 27th
  • Regular Den Meetings on September 10th and 24th

Mark your calendars to be at the September 10th meeting as this will be our annual Popcorn Fund Raiser kickoff. Leopolda has some exciting announcements about this year’s popcorn sales.

Lastly, save the date of Oct. 23-25 as this will be the District Cuboree at Camp Durant. For those who don’t know yet, this coming year is the 100th anniversary of Scouts in America, so this Cuboree should be a bang up event for our boys to attend.

That should be enough information to get you started. I look forward to a great year with our Pack.

Randy
